Treeview in Event and Competition screen not working

The cause for this failure was discovered yesterday: a Windows update for Office 2010 has broken the MSCOMCTL.OCX library (reference)
*A* solution was to unregister the OCX, get the old version back, and register it AS ADMINISTRATOR (under Vista or 7).
It seems that just unregistering and registering will solve the issue as well.
